It's shamelessly sentimental, warmly human and with happy endings: the ultimate Christmas movie. In the dark days before Christmas we screen a heartwarming classic from Hollywood's golden years, when studios pulled out all the stops to make cinema audiences feel good.

James Stewart - Hollywood's most popular star at the time - plays the suicidal George Bailey. He is a good breast who tries to keep an ailing bank in small-town USA afloat. But due to the unfortunate machinations of his business partner he faces financial ruin. While everyone around him is gearing up for a happy & wonderful Xmas, Bailey is on the verge of losing control of himself. Only the intervention of the guardian angel Clarence (Henry Travers), who has descended to earth, can prevent the worst. He shows what life would have been like without Bailey's humane presence.

The original nitrate negative from 1946 threatened to perish, so Paramount decided to initiate the 4K restoration. The film is now sharper and brighter than ever seen on the big screen. Cinema-owner Geert ter Steeg will introduce the film in English. After the screening there is an opportunity to have a Xmas-drink and meet fellow-ex pats.
